Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Saint-Malo?

Saint-Malo is situated in northern Brittany on the English Channel. This region is known as the Emerald Coast. Saint-Malo is a seaport town with a population of more than 40,000 inhabitants, known as Les Malouins, and traces its history back to the 6th century.

Like Quebec City, it is a walled town, and it was from here that Jacques Cartier sailed to the new world in 1534.

Saint-Malo is also the site of the world's largest tidal power station. Across the bay is the seaside resort of Dinard with its beautiful beach and warm water.

Where will I stay while in Saint-Malo?

In the summer of 2008, we will once again be staying in residence at one of three schools in Saint-Malo that we have stayed in over the past few years. The schools have excellent residences, are close to amenities and the beautiful beaches. Students will also enjoy well-balanced meals and a variety of French cuisine during regular mealtimes.

Will I have any free time?

Absolutely! Please consult the itinerary to check out all of the free time. Most evenings are free, however there is a curfew! Two months before departure for France, each family will receive a copy of the Student Handbook. This handbook is an A to Z guide to help prepare each student for the trip.

Can I earn a high school credit while on vacation?

Nova Languages accepts students from all over Canada and the United States who are currently enrolled in or have previously been enrolled in French courses at all levels. As each province and state have their own guidelines for accreditation, Nova Languages does not guarantee high school credit upon completion of the summer school. Please contact Nova Languages for more information on curriculum and outcomes of the summer language school.
